NFL Football Players All-Time Criminal Team
The NFL annouces it's Pro Bowl team annually and it's full of the games biggest stars. But in todays media, good doesn't get the headlines like the bad does. So Pigskinusa took the liberty to assemble our own Pro Bowl team; but ours is full of criminals. Here we go
For years professional athletes have been getting into trouble with the law, unfortunitely it's part of the history of the NFL game. Although there have been more serious crimes committed by lesser known players, our list is compiled mostly of higher profile players and coaches. Remember, these are only convictions; this list doesn’t include all arrests. And there are a lot of them.
Head Coach
Dennis Erickson – Dennis was charged with DUI in 1995 while he was the head coach of the NFL Seattle Seahawks. Currently is the head football coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Assistant Coach
Joe Cullen – In 2006 Cullen was charged with obscene and indecent conduct after an employee of a fast food restaurant noticed Cullen was driving buck naked. A week later he was then arrested for drunk driving. He was also fired at Mississippi in 2006 after being arrested for public drunkenness in a restaurant.
Quarterback
Michael Vick – Michael Vick’s has history of shady criminal behavior, but when Vick pleaded guilty to dog fighting charges in 2007, he hit the big time. Although not criminal in nature, other incidents include: Settling out of court for allegedly intentionally giving herpes to a woman after she found out Vick visited numerous clinics under the alias “Ron Mexico” for treatment. Having a water bottle confiscated at an airport in Miami with a hidden compartment smelling of marijuana. And last but not least, flipping off fans after a loss to the New Orleans Saints in 2006. Currently is serving time for the dog fighting charges in a federal prison.
Running Backs
O.J. Simpson – In 1989, Simpson plead no contest in a domestic violence charge with then wife Nicole Brown Simpson. Although never convicted, Simpson is believed to have committed the double murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and friend Ronald Goldman in 1994. Simpson was acquitted in 1995, but was ordered to pay over 33 million in damages in the civil trial in 1997. Simpson is scheduled to go to trial in Las Vegas, Nevada sometime in 2008 for robbery charges.
Lawrence Phillips - Phillips started his criminal career early while still enrolled at Nebraska. Phillips found ex-girlfriend Kate McEwen in a teammate’s apartment and assaulted her by dragging her down stairs by her hair after a game against Michigan State. Another incident involved running down three teen aged boys with a stolen car after a disagreement stemming from a pick-up football game in Los Angeles. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Wide Receivers
Rae Carruth – Probably the most despicable crime on our list. After finding out his girlfriend was pregnant, Carruth arranged to have her murdered by hiring some local punks to gun her down in a drive-by shooting to avoid paying child support. The girlfriend later died, about a month later, but doctors were able to save her son. Carruth is currently serving 18-24 years in a North Carolina prison.
Randy Moss – Randy Moss is another player got into trouble with the law at an early age. Before even playing a down of college football, Moss assaulted a high school classmate causing multiple internal injuries. In 2002 while playing with the Minnesota Vikings, Moss pushed a police officer a half block while trying to stop him from making an illegal U-Turn. Marijuana and domestic violence charges as well.
Tight End
Mark Chmura – In 2000 Chmura was arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting his 17 year old female babysitter in a bathroom at a post prom party and drinking with minors. He was later acquitted of the charges.
Offensive Lineman
Nate Newton – Newton was arrested in Louisiana in 2001 for drug possession, police found 213 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle. Five weeks later he was arrested again with another 175 pounds of marijuana. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
Bryant McKinnie – McKinnie was involved with the infamous “Love Boat” scandal. According to witnesses, he was giving oral sex to a dancer, and receiving oral at the same time. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct for that incident. McKinnie recently was arrested in Miami on February 2008 for fighting at a night club.
Kenyatta Walker – Not as serious as others on the list, but hey we need to fill out our roster. Walker was arrested in 2003 for disorderly conduct outside a nightclub.
Barret Robbins – Robbins was arrested in 2005 after fighting with the police and was shot three times during that incident. He later was charged with attempted murder for his role. Robbins was giving five years probation, but violated the terms of the agreement and currently has warrants for his arrest in Florida.
Kicker
Sebastian Janikowski - In 1998, while still a member of the Florida State Seminoles, Janikowski was arrested twice for fighting; he pleaded no contest for refusing to leave the premises on one of the charges. Again, Janikowski was arrested in 2002 for DUI where he pleaded no contest and received three years probation.
Defensive Linemen
Leonard Little – In 1998 was arrested for vehicular manslaughter after hitting and killing another motorist in St.Louis while intoxicated. Little served just 90 days in jail and community service. In 2004, Little was arrested again for speeding and drunk driving, but was only charged with speeding.
Tank Johnson – In 2005 “Tank” was arrested for illegal possession of a hand gun in Chicago and received probation. In 2006, still on probation, Johnson was arrested for aggravated assault and resisting arrest outside a Chicago nightclub; charges were later dropped. That’s not all, later in 2006 police found six loaded firearms at his Chicago residence and ended up only serving 60 days in jail.
Alonzo Spellman – During a flight from Cincinnati to Philadelphia Spellman claimed the flight was going to crash and got abusive towards others passengers and the flight crew. The flight had to make an emergency landing and Spellman was later charged with inference with a flight crew and served 18 months in a federal prison. His latest incident involved a high speed high speed chase in Oklahoma where police ended up flatting three of his tires with a spike strip and pepper spraying him.
Cornelius Bennett – In 1997 was involved in an incident where he was accused of sexual assaulting a woman in a Buffalo hotel. He served 36 days in jail was ordered to perform community service and take anger management and substance abuse counseling.
Linebackers
Lawrence Taylor – Was arrested twice for trying to buy cocaine from undercover police officers. Taylor was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license in New Jersey in 1996.
Ray Lewis – After a Super Bowl party in 2000 Lewis was involved in an incident that left two young men dead. Along with two of his cronies, Lewis was later charged with double murder. Due to the incompetence of Atlanta prosecutors, Lewis accepted a plea bargain and ended up pleading guilty to obstruction of justice charges. No one was ever convicted.
Joey Porter – At the Palms casino in Las Vegas, Porter and six of his coward friends jumped Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Levi Jones. Porter ended up pleading guilty to misdemeanor battery which ended up costing him three game checks and a $1000 dollar fine.
Defensive Backs
Dwayne Goodrich – In 2003 Goodrich was found guilty and sentenced to prison for criminally negligent homicide for hit a run incident that left two men dead on the side of a Dallas highway. The two men were trying to rescue a man from a burning vehicle; Goodrich was reportedly driving a 110 mph.
Pacman Jones – Jones has a rap sheet a mile long, but here are the highlights. In 2006 Jones was arrested at a nightclub for disorderly conduct and public intoxication for reportedly spitting in a woman’s face after he said she stole his wallet, he received six months probation. While still a player at West Virginia Jones was sentenced to one year in prison for his role in a bar fight. The sentence ended up being suspended and he was given two years probation. Jones is currently suspended from the NFL until further notice.
Darryl Henley – Henley is currently serving 41 years in prison for a cocaine trafficking conviction in 1995. Apparently that wasn’t bad enough. Henley then attempted to hire a hit man to kill the judge that presided over the case, the gun for hire ended up being an undercover DEA agent.
